India on TV

Just a quick one here, as I hole myself up in an edit bay to go through more than 6 hours of incredible video from our trip to Bangalore ..

First off, thank you to everyone who took time to comment on the blogs from India, whether through the comment spot or through e-mail (feel free to let me know what you think, or drop any suggestions, at scott.budman@nbc.com)

Secondly, the series has a home: It will air on NBC 11 starting monday, September 25th .. through friday. All 5 parts will air at 5pm. Hope you can tune in, or TiVo it. We have so much footage, we'll put extra stuff on the web as well.

Hope you're all well, and thanks again for checking in.

I hope this comment is not deleted just because it is not positive.

It is bad enough that the whole outsourcing business case is flawed because the financials on slides no longer represent the reality, but for the news to spend a whole week doing more marketing for Bangalore is ridiculous.

The facts are salary differences are no longer as high as they used to be when outsourcing was proposed, the talent pool in Bangalore, while capable, are not necessarily talented. Lots of hand-holding and off-American business hours are spent managing and communicating, and these are not accounted for financially. More importantly, the people who propose outsourcing to Bangalore are usually those from India. If they are truly objective, the cost comparisons with other countries no longer support their recommendations.

I trust Scott is an objective enough reporter, and he knows when he sees and smells cow dungs and flies and mosquitoes everywhere, that he knows Bangalore and India is still a "developing" nation. The infrastructure is lagging many other countries in that region, and the general social behavior still needs improvements. This is not a "developed" country as marketed by many Indian nationals and those with ties to India.

Please tell it like it is and not sugar coat the reality. We already have too many misinformation from those who cloud the raw truth.

Thank you.

The clips that i now see on the site (and on NBC11 news) are very short.
Was wondering if you would be posting the major parts of your 6hrs of footage.
All in all, you have done an excellent job. Makes me wonder, why i work here in the Silicon Valley when i could be in India closer to family.

First, to anonymous;

You're right on all points, but how is what you said different from what we reported? .. i.e., yes, there is still outsourcing going on in India (but less these days) .. yes, there is still poverty .. and infrastructure problems. We hit on all of those things, while also pointing out that things are rapidly changing.

Siddarth;

thank you for writing .. as it happens, we just got a great note from Home of Hope .. they had a fundraiser a couple of nights ago, and hauled in a lot of money .. with a lot of people mentioning the story.
You can help out as well (they still need it) on their website, which is: http://www.hohinc.org

Thanks for asking! (And that goes for Krinish, too .. I really enjoy reading your posts!).
